Forty years ago singer/songwriter Dolan Ellis left the glitter
of Hollywood, network television, Carnegie Hall appearances
and international tours with the New Christy Minstrels... to
return to Arizona and become the Official State Balladeer. Over
those years he has written more than 350 songs about the state's
history, lore, personalities and scenic beauty. He has traveled
hundreds of thousands of back-road miles, and made uncountable
photographic images.
Twenty years ago we produced a television program exploring
Dolan's life and music up to that time. Two years ago we produced
another show - an intimate, biographical concert video (After
the Show - featuring Dolan Ellis, available at McCunetv.com)
covering forty years of his music and experience.
The Retrospective included
in this DVD collection contains musical and conversational portions
of the two earlier programs.
Probably no one in Arizona's history loves this state, and has
captured its essence, like Dolan Ellis. This program is a delight
to watch..
